AKARENGA KAN

< History >
AKARENGA KAN, or Brick Building, was built as the food storage for the 49th Infantry Regiment, commonly known as Kofu Infantry Regiment, in 1909. After WWII, the land it stood on became the property of the attached elementary and junior high schools of Yamanashi University in December 1949. While all the other military buildings were demolished, the brick building remained as part of the junior high school's facilities. The damage done to it by a heavy snowfall in 1999 led to a move to restore the old building, and in 2002, now made earthquake-resistant, it changed hands and became part of the Faculty of Education and Human Sciences of University of Yamanashi, retaining much of its original charm.

< Purpose >
AKARENGA KAN is intended to be used as educational and research facilities where various interdisciplinary and practical activities are held for the improvement of education. It also aims to be the center for practice of teaching and for cross-generation communication in the local community, so as to promote lifelong learning and communication among schools, families and communities, by hosting various exhibitions and events.
