The school was established in 1876 as an attached elementary school of Yamanashi Prefectural Normal School(Yamanshi Kenritsu Shihan Gakko), and in 1949, it became an attached elementary school of a national academic institution as the main body was incorporated into a national university, Yamanashi University. Being a school attached to the national university, our missions are to conduct pioneering researches on curriculum for primary education, teaching methods and moral education, to accept college students for teaching practice, and to share the fruit of our researches with those in teaching profession. In 1990 we were among the first schools to introduce personal computers in classroom teaching, and are still now furthering new kinds of education utilizing information technology such as the Internet. In 1997, we were designated as a "Kenkyu Kaihatsu Gakko (Experimental School)" by the Japanese Government, and conducted research on a curriculum for three years. Through the research, we established a concept of "Sogo Gakushu (Comprehensive Learning)," which goes beyond the normal division of subjects, moral education and special activities, and sought for a way to integrate learning of orthodox subjects and comprehensive learning. In pursuit of "Sogo Gakushu," we currently conduct such classes as long-term thematic studies, extended leaning, English learning with native speakers of the language, and computer skills for information literacy.
