| Japanese Language Education

Course Description

Have you ever had an experience in which your interpretation of some literary work happened to be quite different from your teacher's "correct" interpretation in your Japanese class, and you wondered, "what is wrong with mine?" If you have, you are already at the threshold of Japanese language education study, ready to explore this field of study. Why should we study Japanese literature or critiques at school in the first place? Why should we study Japanese grammar at school, though we speak Japanese so fluently in our daily life? In our course, students learn to deal with various questions concerning Japanese language education at school by studying and conducting researches in such fields as Japanese language, classical and modern Japanese literature, Chinese classics, calligraphy, and Japanese language education. In their last two years, students concentrate on and conduct research in specific areas of study, the efforts given to and the results of which are to be presented in their graduation theses. Our "forte" is our capability to offer students careful and detailed instruction, as the faculty comprises experts in their respective fields. Most students obtain a teacher's certificate in high school Japanese language education (Japanese language and calligraphy) as well as one in elementary and junior high school education.
