Course Description
It is widely acknowledged that Japan should
aim to establish itself on the basis of advanced science and
technology in the 21st century. Undoubtedly the task for us
to accomplish is well-balanced development based on integration
of science and technology, nature, and humankind, the counterparts
of which in the field of technology education are "hand,
mind, and heart." To seek the balance of these three
is exactly what we hope to do in our Technology Education
course. We aim chiefly to train teachers for junior high school
technology education, offering classes in wood processing,
mechanics, electricity, information, cultivation and teaching
methods in such fields. The advantage of our course is that
students are able to acquire knowledge and understanding in
a broad range of science technology and in the basic field
of technology education at the same time, thus producing individuals
versed both in humanities and science. We particularly hope
that each student obtains an insight into the concept that
underlies the spirit of "mono-zukuri" or the art of manufacturing,
which transcends the realm of practical goods-production.
Though our students are predominantly male, the number of
female students has been on the rise since the junior high
school technology education was made coeducational. The female
graduates are actively involved in the technology education
field, capitalizing on their unique viewpoints.
