Art Education
Course Description

Man cannot live by the pursuit of productiveness alone. The genuine joy of our soul feeds on the flowers of sensitivity, imagination and creativity, otherwise we will find ourselves in "wasteland." Art appeals to our sensitivity and broadens our horizons, thus enriching our life. Our aim is to nurture creative and flexible minds through the quest for a suitable balance between sensitivity and reason, as well as by integrating education and art. Students specialize and conduct researches in a particular field of art of their choice, while they take a variety of basic courses in art education, painting, sculpture, general design, craft, and theory and history of art. Classes are offered both in technique training and theoretical studies: the former includes drawing, oil painting, carving and sculpture, wood carving, color composition, visual communication design, metal casting, audiovisual media, installation, and others; the latter comprises art theory, the history of Japanese and Western art, art education research, and others.
